It’s been a long-time tradition in our fandom to support a charity at our annual fan-run conventions and every year’s WFOL, so that we can continue to carry the light in memory of our favorite TV show. We believe in having fun and doing good at the same time!

This year, the Wintercandlemakers have selected Partners in Health as our charity.

Partners in Health is one of the leaders in the fight against Ebola in Liberia and Sierra Leone, focusing on decentralizing care away from capital cities and expanding services in rural areas, to try to stem the tide of new cases throughout those countries. It’s not unusual for PIH to take on such a role. Founded in 1987 to deliver health care in Haiti, PIH has expanded its mission throughout the world, in places as diverse as Rwanda, Russia, Peru, Nepal, and the Navajo Nation in the U.S. Its twin goals are to bring the benefits of modern medicine to those most in need, and to serve as an antidote to despair. As their website says, their work “is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone.” That last almost sounds like it could have come out of Father’s mouth, doesn’t it? That’s how the world Below functions, and during this year’s WFOL, we can show our solidarity by helping PIH as they work to mitigate Ebola as well as tuberculosis, cholera, and HIV/AIDS, and to foster women’s and children’s health, nursing and surgery services, and the training of community health workers.

Charity Navigator gives PIH its highest rating: four stars. To learn more about them, go to their website:

Contributions will be accepted throughout Winterfest Online. It’s easy to do! You can, of course, send funds directly to our charity. If that’s how you feel most comfortable contributing, we urge you to do so. But we’d really like to send a cashier’s check in the name of the Beauty and the Beast fans who contributed during WFOL, along with a letter explaining our efforts. If that appeals to you, please contribute by submitting funds through Paypal or writing a check.

Here's how to contribute - it's easy! Click on the "Donate" button below. JoAnn Baca is collecting the contributions, so it's her e-mail address you'll see. Enter the amount you wish to contribute and click the Update Total button and follow the directions on the screen. You can donate with a credit or debit card, a bank account, or a Paypal balance. You can even use Paypal if you are outside of the United States, as Paypal will convert your donation to U.S. dollars from a variety of currencies.

If you prefer to send a check, you may make it out to “Partners in Health” and JoAnn will include it along with the consolidated Paypal contributions. Send it to JoAnn at:

To make your donation go a bit further, skip the Donate button and sign into Paypal directly. Then choose the 'I'm sending money to family or friends' option. Send it to

A reminder: we have some terrific B&B items up for auction on Ebay to raise funds for PIH! Please check them out by viewing the auctions of seller “santiago23” – every penny raised will be added to the cashier’s check going to PIH! (We thank all those who contributed such wonderful goodies for our auctions!)

If you’re having a good time during WFOL – and who isn’t?! – please consider contributing? As you can see, there are a number of ways to do it. Let’s help PIH make a difference in the lives of so many all over the world. Let’s make Father and Vincent proud of us!

By the way, in addition to making a contribution to our selected charity, here’s an easy way to ensure a $.50 donation is made to PIH – just take this quick quiz on PIH’s website:
